Controlled Implementation

Technology Implementation in front-line clinical services requires careful and thorough planning due to the complexity of modern health care delivery. Controlled and managed implementation in adoption-ready sites is critical to success.

Implementation Planning includes

  • Engaging with NHS organisations keen to be first adopters of your technology.
  • Connecting with the key stakeholders within the local health economy that should become members of an Implementation Team.
  • Working with a team to finalise and agree the metrics to be used to measure the "real time" impact of the technology from the patient, operational and economic perspectives and agreeing robust data collection mechanisms.
  • Establishing mechanisms to evaluate patient experience; in an era of patient choice and the Government's drive for quality improvement this is a critical element.
  • Identifying the operational service changes needed to use the technology that includes an appraisal of training requirements and skill mix requirements.

Deliverables

  • A detailed plan of how the implementation process should run.
  • An implementation team responsible for driving adoption and implementation will be identified.
  • An agreed data set and collection methodology to validate the outcomes and benefits the technology will confer.

Implementation Management

The planning stage will have laid down the foundations for an active controlled implementation process in a selected number of NHS organisations. In this stage, testing and resolution of any issues raised previously is undertaken and most crucially, the key information about any technology specific challenges are captured.

During Controlled Implementation NTAC will:

  • Provide project management support to the implementing sites.
  • Support procurement of the technology.
  • Discuss with the Department of Health Payment by Results Team should a technology specific tariff be required.
  • Gather and analyse the data and evidence to determine that the proposed benefits are realised.
  • Collate the supporting information to support wider adoption.
  • Produce an exemplar business case and 'Case for Change' relevant to current NHS Commissioners and Providers.

Deliverables

The prime aim of this stage is to have 'tested and resolved' the issues raised during the assessment phase of the adoption process. The key issues to be addressed during adoption and key messages to be communicated to decision makers in purchasing NHS organisations will be presented to you in a detailed and comprehensive Implementation Pack that will assist you to expand uptake across the NHS.
